Dr. V Shubha on “Airport Instrumentation-A Made in India Technology

             Dr. V Shubha is a distinguished Scientist at the National Aerospace Laboratories.

Dr. V Shubha joined CSIR – NAL as a Research Fellow in 1974 and as a Scientist in 1982. She has held various scientific positions (from 1982 as Junior Scientist to Distinguished Scientist in 2017). She was the Head of Materials Science Division from 2013-14 and Head of Airport Instrumentation Division from 2014-17.

Dr. V Shubha has 43 years of Research and Technology experience in the field of Instrumentation, Materials Science, Thermoelectric Materials, High Pressure Science & Technology, Ceramic Composites for Aerospace & Strategic sectors and Ultra High Temperature Ceramic Materials and has been awarded 26 National Awards.

She holds BSc Hons (Physics) with 2 Gold Medals for 1st Rank, Govt of India- National Merit Award and Fellowship for highest marks in Physics and MSc Physics (Electronics) with 3 National awards for 1st Rank and highest marks in Physics.

Mrs Bhanumathy Y R on “Bird’s Eye View of Women Achievements in Space Technology-India and Abroad

Smt. Bhanumathy Y R, Scientist Engineer “H” is the Group Director of Systems Reliability Group of Reliability and Quality Area at ISRO Satellite Centre, Bangalore. She heads a group of 98 engineers and technical personnel who are responsible for the reliability assurance of the subsystems of a spacecraft with respect to design, conformance to performance requirements, testing  and mission assurance of all space crafts realized by ISAC viz., Remote Sensing, Communication, Microwave Sensing, Navigation, Chandrayaan, Aditya L1 and Interplanetary missions.

She joined ISAC in 1986, as a Scientific Assistant ‘C’ Programmer in Test and Evaluation Section of Quality Assurance Division. As a Test, Evaluation and Reliability Engineer, she was responsible for various tasks needing technical and managerial skills. She has worked in various capacities during her 30 years career in ISAC from Test and Evaluation Engineer, Reliability Analysis Development, Project Manager (Quality Assurance) for INSAT 3A & 3C satellites, Deputy Project Director (Quality Assurance) of Technology Experiment satellite GSAT-4. She was Section Head of the Reliability, Test and Evaluation Section for Digital Systems and was later given higher responsibilities of Avionics Production Division Head, where she has established the production facilities for vendors in addition to increasing the production capacity of ISAC through industry participation in this niche area of space technology.

She is also the Chairperson of the Standing Thermovaccuum test committee for all space crafts and has conducted, reviewed and cleared the performance of nearly 10-12 satellites.

She has contributed as an Associate Project Director towards the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite Series of satellites which have formed the constellation to provide GPS over the Indian Region. She has many papers which have been published in various journals in her field of excellence viz. quality assurance.

Smt Bhanumathy was nominated for a training program at NASA GSFC in the area of Quality Assurance. In recognition of her contribution to the Zero Defect Delivery of Space Systems, she has received the Team Excellence Award as a team member for the year 2015 by Department of Space, Govt. Of India.
